The Limbaughization Of The Republican Party-- The Increasing Ugliness of CPAC

>

Oops... a no show for the NutFest

No one wouldn't expect the ideological extreme malcontents at the Republican CPAC in Washington to fit right in with Rush Limbaugh and his prayers for President Obama's failure. Nor should it surprise anyone that fanatic fringe wingnuts like former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and defeated former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum espouse the same "I hate Americans" kind of attitude. But this leaves us to wonder about the so-called mainstream Republican officials who are participating in this extremist gathering. What about Mitt Romney, John Cornyn, Joe Scarborough and Chris Smith? They were all speakers. Do they embrace the dangerous fringe ideas being espoused on every stage and in every conference room?

Limbaugh says "We all agree I'm not an idiot." We do? Count me out of that "we." And what about the millions of people who read and loved that best selling book by now-Senator Al Franken? Limbaugh blathers on, with what is at least partially true-- certainly true of the treasonous crowd of rats at CPAC: "The dirty little secret... is that every Republican in this country wants Obama to fail, but none of them have the guts to say so." That's ugly-- but is it true? Well, some Republicans-- maybe not many Inside-the-Beltway-- do put country first and party second. They don't want the president to fail.

Some people see the huge problems facing this country-- almost entirely brought on by an ignorant, shallow and venal president and a shamelessly rubber stamp Republican Congress following wrong-headed right-wing dogma-- and would like our president to lead us out of the quagmire. Others, like Limbaugh and the CPAC crowd, see it as an opportunity to espouse the partisan extremism that has marginalized the Republican Party. We heard very conservative South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford denounce Limbaugh for... for what? The sentiment he expressed? Or for expressing it out loud for all the world to hear? Limbaugh thinks Sanford wants Obama to fail too but that he's just too much of a coward to say it out loud.

What about mainstream conservatives who are trying to not be identified with the CPAC extremists? Sure the fringe loons like CPAC favorites Ann Coulter, Jim DeMint (R-SC), Bill Bennett, John Bolton, Mike Pence (R-IN), Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Bob Corker (R-TN), Roy Blunt (R-MO), John Shadegg (R-AZ) and Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) behave like trained seals and will say anything-- no matter how treasonous-- to get applause from the extremists but what about John McCain? What about Lamar Alexander? What about Lisa Murkowski, Richard Lugar, John Thune, Kay Bailey Hutchison? And how about the few relatively mainstream House members left in the GOP caucus, folks like Frank LoBiondo (NJ), Jim Gerlach (PA), Mike Castle (DE), Tim Johnson (IL), Mark Kirk (IL), Vernon Ehlers (MI), Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ), Judy Biggert (IL)... These are supposed to be adults who claim to put country first. Are they on Limbaugh's and the radicals' side or are they still for America?

The extremist wingnuts at CPAC voted among Republican politicians looking to take on President Obama in 2012. Mitt Romney got the most votes, 20%. Palin was fourth (13%, basically tied with Ron Paul).

Mitt Romney - 20%
Bobby Jindal - 14%
Ron Paul -13%
Sarah Palin - 13%
Newt Gingrich -10%
Mike Huckabee - 7%
Mark Sanford - 4%
Rudy Guiliani - 3%
Tim Pawlenty - 2%
Charlie Crist - 1%
Undecided - 9%

No votes for Joe the Plumber, Michele Bachmann or Rick Santelli? I want a recount. I wonder if Romney paid the little pimply-faced armchair capitalists to vote for him again this year like he did in 2008.

They say the crap because they believe there is no penalty, it all talk.
Addresses need to be discovered, published, and circulated so the crap comes home to roost.
Liberals own guns too, and a lot of us shoot very well.

What exactly are you suggesting Joe? That is rather Orwellian of you to imply that those with whom you disagree ought to be KILLED. I suppose since your logic cannot defeat your enemies you must defeat them with bullets. Think for a second what you are suggesting. Now realize how pathetic you have made yourself look. Why are you so afraid of Mr. Limbaugh? His principles are what have established this nation. Capitalism is what brought the lifespan of the average American from 45 to 75 in 100 years. Capitalism is what produced your computer which you now use to espouse hate and threats. Why are you so angry? Who has wronged you in your life? How have the traditions of American, for which Mr. Limbaugh stands, made your or anyone else's life worse? Redeem yourself by refuting conservative ideas with better ones, not by killing those who believe in it.
I am posting this anonymously for fear of your hateful wrath.

Capitalism? Lets talk about neo liberal economics, your structural adjustment policies and institutions like the School of the Americas (now called Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation). Thats the capitalism you speak of, eliminating democraticly elected leaders so you can enforce trade policies that contiune to rape under developed countries, all in the name of "liberty" and "capitalism". The time of your selfish ignorant ways are over, the world is sick of your bullshit and you will reap what you sow.

The Republican Party is in a death spiral. They have no leaders. They have no message other than "NO". They have no clear plans for the future of their Party and who the heck they are.
CPAC was a hatefest for all those still bitter at how badly the Republicans were beaten in the Nov election. None of their candidates are remotely viable for mainstream America.
Right now Americans see Republicans are America-haters who would rather see the country fail to try to regain power than to get involved and be part of the solution.
We all got more than enough negativity and stupidity from the McCain campaign so more of the same is very tiresome, childish, and is even turning Republicans away.
Republican Party approval ratings are now down in the George Bush range. They do not seem to have noticed how unpopular they are and how clueless they are because of meetings just like CPAC. They circle the wagons and tell each other what they want to hear and ALL of it is totally wrong and completely opposite of the rest of America.
Who do they think is going to vote for them? Each other?
The American people are angry with Republican behavior and attitudes. Come the 2010 midterms - even more Republicans will be voted out of office and they will never see it coming.
Fine with me. I want serious, intelligent, normal people in our Congress who want to do the work of the People who elected them and want America to recover and again be the world leader in many areas.
We need a 2 Party system for checks and balances, but who are willing to work together for compromise solutions. The Republican Party has become so lost and irrelevant, I don't see a valid 2 Party system for many years to come.
Old white men spewing hate will not attract ANY voters.

"Why are you so afraid of Mr. Limbaugh? His principles are what have established this nation."

You mean taking recreational drugs, or becoming the doyen of American hate radio? Granted, both are old traditions, and they're about the only things Limbaugh has done of note, but I have a hard time figuring which one you think helped establish this nation.

With Limbaugh at the podium, the Republican Party shows its true color - the toxic green of envy, fear, loathing, and most of all, avarice. Limbaugh is just venting Republican frustration: A couple more years and they would have stolen EVERYTHING that wasn't nailed down. It was a close call, a very close call indeed.

In 1933, Roosevelt became President and appointed Morgenthau governor of the Federal Farm Board. In 1934, when William H. Woodin resigned because of ill-health, Roosevelt appointed Morgenthau Secretary of the Treasury (an act that enraged conservatives). Morgenthau was an orthodox economist who opposed Keynesian economics and disapproved of some elements of Roosevelt's New Deal. Although he was a Roosevelt loyalist and retained his office until 1945, in "New Deal or Raw Deal?" Burton Folsom quotes Morgenthau, testifying before the House Ways and Means Committee in May of 1939, the FDR ally did not sugarcoat it: "We are spending more money than we have ever spent before and it does not work. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. We have never made good on our promises. I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started and an enormous debt to boot."

Sixty four years ago Norman Thomas knew what was going to happen to our country in 2009. Norman Mattoon Thomas (November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. The Socialist Party candidate for President of the US, Norman Thomas, said this in a 1944 speech: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one dayAmerica will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform."

I love how many liberals think that they have won some sort of landslide in the hearts and minds of the American people. Obama won the popular vote by less than a 10% majority. One of the things that he is using that margin for is the stimulus package, something that the majority of Americans don't support. People are angry about this and Rush is speaking for the working class people that pay their bills, pay their mortgages, and just want the government to get out of their lives. There is a reason America was a great nation, it was because you could work hard and earn a good life. Now that Obama Pelosi, and Frank have the helm intelligent people are seeing the corruption, the payoffs, the promotion of the entitlement mentality and we are seeing the fruit of our labor feeding people who didn't earn it. I didn't buy a house in the boom because I knew I couldn't pay for it. Why should I have to pay for the guy who knew he couldn't pay for it but took the loan anyway? Why should I support ACORN, 3rd world abortions, all the other special interest earmarks (9000 and counting people). This is why Rush has the support he does, because nobody else has stood up and said what is on so many people minds. I see the future and I cringe. My child will live in a society that has less freedoms because of the Democratic party. My child will have crippling debt because of the democratic party. In the end Obama has more in common with Juan Peron than the American leaders he would like us to think he emulates. He said it was the era of change and hope... well we see that he is only doing what failed before, trying to out-spend a recession, so there is no change. Those who dissent get hit with threats of "Fairness Doctrine" and without freedom there is no hope. Is this the land you want to pass on to your children?

Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer, that is all he is. With ever word he spits out, he makes thousands. He laughs all the way to the bank, possible off shore with his money you wing nuts provide for him. He has played all you right wingers, and you just don't get it. He is a fraud my friends. A convicted drug felon who has found some suckers, that actually believe what falls out of his mouth...Thank heaven most people have seen him for what he is, a loud mouth blabber mouth...

I believe we should give credit where credit is due. Limbaugh along with Bush, Cheney and the other camp followers can take full credit for almost destroying this Country. You care NOT for this Country, so get out of the way and let those that do try to fix it.

How can anyone take this loudmouth Limbaugh seriously? He'll say and do anything to get another 15 minutes. While I do agree with some of what he says, I also see that action IS needed to jump start the economy again. Remember this is the same economy that was systematically pillaged by the previous, Republican president. Funny how gas prices have dropped from $4 to less then $2. What happened? Is it now costing the gas companies less to produce it? No, but I know of one republican president who has close ties to the Saudi Royal family, who helped him get started in the oil business. Paying back a debt, perhaps?
Fat boy Limbaugh needs to up his Oxys and just go away. The Republican party needs a real leader.

The very first comment says "Liberals own guns too, and a lot of us shoot very well."

I personally look forward to the days that liberals resort to that option.

I don't get it... so many reasonably intelligent people in the GOP have lost their minds. To think what Robert Taft or Nelson Rockefeller would have thought about today's Republican leaders. It's sad. Christie Whitman, while not one of my favorites, hit it right when she characterized the "taking of the GOP" by doctrinaire ideologues just makes me sad. By supporting the likes of Mr. Limbaugh, Ms. Coulter and Mrs. Palin, we moderates will never have a chance and the "loyal opposition" will fade from memory. We're watching the repeat of the Fall of Rome if this continues.

At 6:30 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sad but true. How could you possibly hope that your President would fail, just because he belongs to a different party. Especially during the crisis that this country is in. The "United" States???????

At 6:37 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have always laughed when either party gets up on their soap box to talk about small government. Both parties have done what they can to have more government in our lives. When the Republicans refer to themselves as the party of Jefferson the guy must spin in his grave.

Listening to the like of Rush, Ann, Sean et. al. is like listening to children on the play ground who can't get along or play well with others. The same can be said for the left and the CNBC crowd. Instead of pointing fingers and calling names the country needs to pull together, get the government out of our schools, businesses and lives and get down to the business of putting Humpty Dumpty together again. Ignorance is going to do it.

Democracy allows us to reep what we sow, it is time to plant better quality seeds. Between Reid, Palosi, McConnel and McCain we have not planted a very healthy crop.

Some Republicans ask, "Why are you so afraid of Rush Limbaugh?" The answer is simple. Whenever you have a de facto leader who is strident, ignorant, ideologically driven, polarizing and 100% certain that he is right on every issue, and then you give that person an unquestioning and uninformed mob to manipulate, trouble is bound to result. Limbaugh is a classic case of the kid in school who got picked on and bullied because he was chubby and not too bright. He avoided the draft, never graduated from any college and had no real skill. What he did have was a burning desire to get back at everyone who bullied him. He grew up with an "I'll show them" mantra, and that's what he's doing now. As an individual, he amounts to nothing but a lot of noise. But, as usual, it's the mob that is so willing to listen to him that is a danger. All Limbaugh is a kid playing with a book of matches. The problem is that he's trying to set the house on fire.

BOTH parties have been idiotic and ill-intentioned over the past eight years. No politican or 'political celebrity' has been worthwhile, or for that matter, remotely intelligent. From Rush, to Jindal to Obama to Pelosi to Gore to Hillary to -- Al Franken? ('nuff said)

There are no leaders in this country anymore and as a result, vermin have taken the throne. It's sick and revolting. And what's even MORE sickening is the massive support and defense of any of these politicians by Americans and their easy, lazy online blogs.

We are a nation of cowards, but not for the reason we were labeled that, but because Americans seem to support stupidity and laziness instead of striving for intelligence and working hard.

The “Rush Limbaugh” Republican party had gone so far out in the left field, that they’re actually out in the parking lot. They had demonstrated that they’re only in it for their own and the rich’s agenda. This election shown that the people are tired of their all talk and no action BS. If they think Palin, Jindal and Romney will be their flag carrier for 2012, they’re highly disillusional. It’s pathetic that the Republican party had used Jindal to do a rebutal to Obama’s speech. Is that an attempt to show the Republican party does have an Obama’s version? It’s not the player but the issues, stupid! And Rush Limbaugh? He’s like the joker of the Republican party. The only difference between him and the KKK is he doesn’t wear a hood and bed sheet.

Limbaugh is a fascist, no longer speaks for the right, but comes from a place closer to that of they Aryan Nations, and the KKK. He is devout only to the rich, because he is among them, hence has developed an uncanny ability avoid support of the middle and lower class, who are hurting. He is no longer funny, and in many cases just a very poor excuse for a small town radio redneck.

Re: CONSERVATIVES vs. OBAMA

Conservative America, the choice is clear:

On one side you have an exceptional human being:
President Barack Obama.
On the other you have a junkie scumbag:
Rushin on my run Limbaugh aka The Wizard.

A: Harvard Law graduate, community activist, elected official.
B: On-air personality, media pariah, Doctor-scamming gasbag.

My friends, there ain't enough heroin in the world to turn Rush Limbaugh into someone worth listening to.

On one side you have a philosophy that approves of money for
no-bid contractors, flagrantly felonious financial institutions,
and roads to nowhere.
On the other side you have a philosophy that approves of money for infrastructure (roads, schools, energy, etc), opportunities for the working poor (Health Care, Education), and a better America for everyone, not just the haves and have mores.

My friends, you want a truly conservative approach to Government? You want 'every man for himself' so to speak?
For a clear cut illustration of the outcome of this approach one need look no further than our neighbor, Mexico.

P.S. The only economist dumber than Karl Marx is Milton Friedman.

As long as the radical left have things like Olbermann, Maddow, Sean Pean, Angelina Jolie, Kanye West, Tim Robbins (do I really need to get listing hollywood psychos?) CNN, ALL OF MSNBC, Newspapers, TIME magazine, Newsweek magazine, and ABC news I will listen to Rush Limbaugh.

I might not agree with Rush on some issues, but the fact that he irritates the crazy liberals so much is enough for me to keep listening. I almost have to go to the radio to hear conservative values being preach, liberals are into censorship and are now trying to do that to Limbaugh, utterly hypocritical.

Rush sounds like Hitler did when he was bringing his evil empire into being. These kind of people are very dangerous and the country and the world are in a precarious place right now. He said yesterday that one should not worry about people liking you, just get their vote! That for me was very telling from this scum bag...

Rush, Hannity and Ann Coulter are evil and dangerous.

They care only for their rich, under-tax-paying supporters so they can continue to deplete the middle class.

Did you ever think that the "mainsteam" media is behind Obama because he's unquestionably the best person to lead our country? Should they pretend otherwise to satisfy the winguts? REALLY?

Repubs are small-minded and vengeful.

BE PART OF THE SOLUTION INSTEAD OF THE PROBLEM. PROVE YOU DESERVE TO BE HEARD - PROVIDE RESPONSIBLE AND VIABLE IDEAS INSTEAD OF PURE HATE.
